Where to Find Volunteering Opportunities

You want to know where to volunteer, I believe you came to the right place, because in this blog post, I’ll show you how and where to find places to volunteer!

According to Volunteer Toronto, there are three set steps to finding an opportunity that fits your needs and interests. The three steps are: Reflect, Research, and Reach Out.

Reflect has 4 parts to think about that are really self explanatory, what are you good at, what do you want to gain from volunteering, what causes do you care about, and how much time do you have.

Once you have that all figured out, it’s time to Research volunteering opportunities based on what you’ve reflected on. There are many websites where you go to research opportunities based on keywords, for example in Ontario we have SPARK Ontario. SPARK Ontario’s goal is to spread the word about volunteering and help Ontarians to get involved with activities that fit their lifestyle and their mission is to bring potential volunteers and non-profit organizations together.

He is a list volunteering websites to help you out!:

Once you’ve found an opportunity that interests you, Reach Out to the organization. Make sure you have an updated resume and references ready, specifically follow the instructions in the “How to Apply” section or position description, and most importantly, don’t hesitate to contact the person listed if you have any questions.

Looking online isn’t the only place to volunteer, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities in every community. For example, clean your community. Litter and graffiti lower the quality of life for everyone in a community. You can join organizations committed to keeping areas clean, or organize your own efforts with friends and neighbors. Even just picking up trash when you see it is a valuable community service.
