BTS Team

Neal Ewers

Consulting Director

I have many people to thank for supporting me in beating the inner-city streets of Toronto, attaining a degree at Simon Fraser University, and having a successful Wrestling Career on the national team… I can think of no better way than to replicate this process for other youth on similar paths with our BTS Toronto Programs.

  • Here at BTS, I facilitate programs to build up the quality of wrestling in the GTA. Thus giving our youth the means to become better wrestlers and increasing their chances of pursuing post-secondary education and receiving athletic scholarships. At BTS Toronto we provide not only encouragement, we also provide programs for our youth to be successful as well.

Jessica Marasovic

Development and Communications Consultant

I graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours BA, then continued at Humber College with an International Project Management Post-graduate certificate. I began working in the non-profit and human rights sector in 2002 and have loved every minute of it.

  • I had the privilege of travelling the world and working at numerous engaging and awesome NGOs and international organizations like the United Nations International Trade Centre. I've also worked as a consultant and service provider for various non-profits through web development, grant writing and other project management services.

It's an honour working with this team, with the youth who inspire me every day and with our generous partners who make all this possible.

Coaches & Facilitators

Andrew Tyson

LEVEL UP COACH

I began my athletic career in high school playing football and Wrestling in the Greater Kansas City Area of the United States. I excelled predominantly in Wrestling placing 3rd in Kansas 6A State Championships after only competing for 3 years while attending Shawnee Mission South in Overland Park Kansas. After Highschool I attended Rockhurst University where I received my Bachelor’s in economics and my Master’s in Business Administration.

  • While pursuing my Master’s, I began training and competing in Amateur Mixed Martial Arts under Title Boxing Club in Kansas City and later American Top Team KC and Glory MMA. As an amateur, I went 11-0 in Mixed Martial Arts and was the 2nd Ranked Lightweight Amateur in the nation in 2010 according to the ISCF. Due to injury, I took 3 years off from the sport in which I began my career as a trainer at Title Boxing Club in Kansas City where I was certified in Boxing Fitness under Title Boxing Club.

In 2014 I decided to return to Mixed Martial Arts as a Pro featherweight where I have since gone 5-0 as a Professional Mixed Martial Artist. I have also received my Jiu-Jitsu blue belt under Nova Uniao Black Belt, Brazilian National Champion and Canadian National Champion Igor Mocaiber. Many years of training with some of the best athletes in the Mid Western United States and coming back from multiple injuries has taught me the importance of an overall balanced fitness regimen. I have both experienced and taught others the benefits of using boxing and other martial arts such as Jiu-Jitsu as part of an overall fitness journey that attains more than just aesthetics as a goal. True health comes from a mutual growth of not only the body and muscles but the mind as well. It has been a true blessing to share my knowledge and love of fitness with so many people ranging from kids as young as 6 years old to adults of all ages.

Sue Hopcroft

BOOK KEEPER

While a daily, early morning aquafit class is more my style, as a mother of two, I know first hand the value sports plays in the healthy transition from childhood to adulthood and I am proud to be working with Beat the Streets and making a small contribution to their mission of building social-emotional, physical literacy and employability skills in youth.

  • I started my own business, Hopcroft Business Services, in 2001 and have been providing bookkeeping, accounting and tax services to small businesses, non-profits and charities since then.  With Beat The Streets, my role is to ensure that the financial records of the organization support the organization’s mission and fosters confidence in small supporters and large funders alike.

Returning to school as an adult, I hold a BA Hons. from York University after graduating summa cum laude in 2008.  I am a member and past president of CPB Canada and a member and past board member of ATAP (Association of Tax & Accounting Professionals).

We all give back in our own ways.  I am a former board member of My Sisters Place, a shelter for women and children fleeing violence.  Currently, I mentor youth entrepreneurs through Futurpreneur Canada.
