Hello Hello Hellooo

Hello! I'm Mayya, one of the new research assistants at Beat The Streets! This summer, I was planning to review math in preparation for my first year at university, and as a research assistant I'll be crunching numbers.... a lot.

So, a little about me: I love biking. And you must realize that clearly, I love it A LOT if it is the first thing I mention about myself. Truly though, there is an inexplicable freedom of pedaling away, adrenaline in the blood and sweat soaking through your shirt.

A lot of people can tell you that they enjoy going downhill. The rush of wind and speed feels amazing, like you're a bird in flight. It always makes me imagine the sea, and what it must have represented to the sailors who chose to spend their days there rather than on land. The movement onward, the breeze, and the absolute freedom.

However, I love going uphill too. Every meter you move is through your own work and effort, and it feels rewarding when you make it to the top of the hill. It sounds symbolic when said like that, since in life, one must put in work and effort to better oneself, whether physically, emotionally, or mentally. It does not happen overnight or without effort and perseverance.

I admire all that BTS does to help youth and children better themselves and realize their potential. Perseverance is extremely important in achieving one's goals, and sports ingrain that quality into people. BTS teaches youth and children how to maintain a social-emotional and physical wellbeing, and empowers them to become great adults. I am really grateful to Beat The Streets and Canada Summer Jobs for giving me the opportunity to work with BTS over the summer.

Thanks for reading! Leave a comment if you like biking too ;D
