Who is Taha Shafiqi?
I would like to start off by expressing my appreciation and giving special thanks to Summer Jobs Canada and Beat The Streets Toronto for this great job opportunity.
I’m Taha Shafiqi and I’ll be working this summer as a Fundraising Assistant with Beat The Streets Toronto. I currently attend West Humber Collegiate Institute and heading into the 12th grade. Nothing bugs me more than an empty summer. Sleeping, eating, playing video games, and learning absolutely nothing is usually how it goes. This summer, I want to change that. Beat The Streets Toronto allows me to learn new soft skills such as time management, organization, and collaboration, and hard skills such as data entry, analysis, and development. I am also learning to communicate appropriately in a professional environment as usually I take the same tone with everybody.
If you were to ask anyone about my interests, they would tell you two things, combat sports, and soccer. In my humble opinion, MMA is the most entertaining sport in the world. Watching bloody fights like Robbie Lawler vs Rory McDonald, or Leon Edwards vs Nate Diaz (aka the greatest of all time) just goes to show you that “play fighting” and even stepping into the cage is something to applaud. I’ve been watching and playing soccer for about 8 years and nothing beats the atmosphere of a 90-minute game. There is something about finally scoring the winning goal or losing in penalties that makes me so passionate about it. Although I don’t plan on going pro, joining a Sunday league definitely isn’t out of scope.
In the future, I plan to study either Architecture or Civil Engineering at Ryerson University (if I get accepted). I also want to move to a quiet/calm house out of the city and start a family business.
