OATS!!!
Okay so we all know that oats are good for us but beyond that, they are such good fuel especially for athletes!
Oats are classified as a complex carbohydrate, meaning that they take longer for your body to break down. This makes them a more sustainable source of energy compared to simple or refined carbohydrates which are broken down by the body very quickly providing a short-lived spike in energy but a sugar crash afterwards.
Oats contain many vitamins and minerals like Vitamin B for energy, brain health, and muscle function, as well as Magnesium which helps with the relief of sore muscles, promotes muscular repair and regrowth and lowers Cortisol, the body’s stress hormone that becomes elevated during exercise.
Oats are also a good plant-based source of protein. Providing seven grams of protein in half a cup of rolled oats and eight to nine grams of protein in half a cup of steel-cut oats.
So I think e have established that oats are quite the super food but plain old oatmeal can become tiring.
Try mixing up your oatmeal with different toppings, fruit, nuts etc. There is no limit to all of the possibilities.
Oats can be added to smoothies, or turned into a granola https://cookieandkate.com/healthy-granola-recipe/, an oatmeal bake https://www.theworktop.com/breakfast-brunch-recipes/healthy-baked-oatmeal/, muffins https://brendid.com/healthy-oatmeal-muffins-no-flour-no-sugar-no-oil/, pancakes https://www.modernhoney.com/banana-oatmeal-pancakes/.
