How I "overcame" my asthma

For my asthmatic boys out there,

Yeah I know, long nails

I previously mentioned this in my introduction post of how I was struggling to get past warmup because of my asthma and "athleticism". And if you went and jumped both feet into wrestling like I did and went to an experienced team you probably had to do handsprings, backflips and all sorts of gymnastic stuff. For the first couple of months , I struggled hard, a tenth into the warmup and it already felt like someone was squeezing my chest in.

But I never told you how I was able to overcome and "get" off it. Well, I still have asthma but I'm not as dependent on it as I was a couple months ago. And this may sound like a cliché thing to say but I believe consistency was what reduced my symptoms. Two months after I started, the symptoms kicked in halfway into warmup, three months later , three-quarters . Now, 6 months later , I’m able to do the full half-hour warmup . Really I just got more fit, those who have done previous sports prior to wrestling don’t need to worry about a thing, your body has already gotten used to “work”.

However, if you were like me , stayed at home and played video games and did not regularly involve myself in physical activity. You’re going to have a much harder road. Before I got asthma at twelve, I was decently active, basketball every week with my friends and school gym classes. After, I was just too scared of dying on the spot and gasping for air. But if you don’t try to build immunity to it now, it’s going to be impossible when you grow up. Because where are you going to find the time to hit the gym between school and job? I say, just take all the pain now when you’re young and don’t have to deal with old people stuff like joint pain so you don’t have to deal with asthma later in life.
