Favourite wrestling moments

I have been thinking recently about some of my favourite moments in wrestling. I think I have it narrowed to my top moment as when I won my first Provincial Championship in 2018. It is not my favourite moment because I won. It is my favourite moment because that is the moment that

I started to actually believe in myself and think “Okay, I can do this.”  So I wanted to hear what some other people’s favourite moments in wrestling were.

Yasmina Younes - National Capital Wrestling Club athlete

Wrestling has brought many great moments and memories into my life such as meeting new friends, and mentors who’ve had a very tremendous impact on my life, but my favorite memory has to be helping out younger and newer wrestlers and seeing their faces light up once they finally understand and get a move or technique that I’ve been trying to teach them for a while

Amninder Saroya - Team Xtreme and Beat The Streets athlete

My favourite moment in wrestling was Provincials 2018. I learned a lot from this experience and I’m very thankful for it. I went into the finals not believing in myself, but a really good pep talk from my coach gave me a much-needed boost and helped me win. This tournament gave me loads of self-confidence that I was lacking prior to the tournament thanks to my coaches and teammates that helped me.

Bernard Sanchez - Coach at West Humber CI, Team Xtreme, and Beat The Streets

Over the years a question like this gets harder and harder for me to answer. Seems like a million years ago I started my journey as a coach and special moments get outdone every year. However, I do have a stand out moment. As you may or may not know, I am in pursuit of a OFSAA Championship and in 2014 after the first day of competition seeing West Humber C.I. in 3rd place and challenging for the title it felt like things were finally coming together. Although we ultimately did not win, it set the stage. West Humber was no longer going to be the "New York Knicks or Cleveland Browns" or the league. Basically, it was our coming-out party, and since then we have had amazing moments like Dip Lad going to finals, Brea Rodgers winning back to back provincials titles, Arely having a break out year with a Nationals silver...the list goes on and on. I am excited to make more memories with the group and guys and girls I coach and can't wait for this upcoming season.
