Hey Everyone!

My name is Jasreen Sahota! I am in the 9th grade and I’m very excited to be working with Beat The Streets as a volunteer this summer! I would like to thank Beat the Streets for this opportunity! I would also like to thank Canada Summer Jobs for giving Beat the Streets the chance to make a difference. As someone who is going to start high school soon, I know that the skills I will be learning while working with them will help me in the future!

My strengths are that I am a very confident speaker and an avid listener. I enjoy speaking in front of people and I can maintain a good tone while talking to people. I am also someone who can listen to someone speak and consider what they said before coming to a conclusion. I would like to get better at managing stress, problem solving and starting new tasks with a positive attitude. I know that by working with Beat the Streets, I will learn skills that will help me learn to be a better problem solver and overall a more organized person.

Some of my hobbies include working out, playing various sports, baking and writing. Over the summer, I am excited to be outside more as the lockdown has been relaxed. One of my biggest idols is LeBron James. I think he is someone who constantly shows GRIT and is someone who achieved greatness, even though he had a rough childhood. Another person who really inspires me is my father. He started his own business here despite the fact that he had immigrated from India and had to adjust to the culture here without knowing how to communicate with people, as he did not know how to speak English very well. Today, his business has grown significantly. I look at these people as role models because they went against all odds and still achieved what they set out for, which is exactly what I want to do!

Overall, I am looking forward to this journey with BTS and I know that I will enjoy it a lot!
