Background
Beat the Streets (BTS) is a charitable organization encouraging resilient, confident and active youth across the Greater Toronto Area through sports and learning programs. BTS advances the education of children and youth by providing fun and unique development activities that build social-emotional, physical literacy and employability skills. Since 2014, BTS has impacted more than 14,000 students through its 4 programs: Level Up, You Grow Girl, Wrestle 4 Fun and Work it.
With generous support from Canada Summer Jobs, BTS will be looking to expand its team over the summer. BTS is currently accepting applications for 4 summer positions from youth. BTS provides real-work experiences in a non-profit setting and teaches both hard and soft skills to help increase job readiness and help youth successfully transition from school to tomorrow’s workforce. We are recruiting for an executive assistant, a program associate and two social media community managers.
Positions are for students between the ages of 16 - 25.

Available Positions
This summer, BTS will carry out organizational, operational and development activities as well as delivering recreational programs and managing social media. This is a good opportunity for youth looking to gain transferable skills and experience working in the dynamic non-profit sector.

Executive Assistant
30 hours/week @ $14.25/hour
9 weeks (May 17 - July 16, 2021)
Remote
BTS is seeking an executive assistant to work remotely and support the activities of the Executive Director. This position will provide the ED with vital support during the drafting of operational and strategic plans. The ideal candidate is someone with a positive and responsible mindset who enjoys being a team player, communicating, following directions, multitasking, organizing, and problem-solving. The executive assistant will be responsible for the following duties & responsibilities:
Client Services:
provide support services to the Executive Director (ED)
support the ED with the implementation of outreach and strategic plans
calendar management
inquiries and requests
support ED with communications (internal and external).
Team Work:
work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities
Communication:
organize and manage meetings, including minutes, calendars and internal communications
produce social media content (blog posts)
Digital Skills:
research and analysis to support work of ED
prepare and edit internal documents, including presentations and reports
update website content as necessary
general administrative tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) related to their position
other administrative tasks as necessary
Leadership:
lead social-media team and program associate (manage day to day activities, write and present weekly updates, monitor goals and deadlines, report to ED)
There is also a mentoring and learning component of the position, which involves one-on-one and group mentoring sessions, tutorials and workshops on hard and soft skills. The position also includes group activities on project management and research and development. The Executive Assistant is expected to attend meetings, participate in performance assessment and entry and exit interviews.
Program Associate
30 hours/week @ $14.25/hour
9 weeks (May 17 - July 16, 2021)

BTS is seeking a program associate to work remotely and support the activities of the Development and Communications team. This position will provide the team with vital support during the preparation of the communication and fundraising strategy as well as developing tutorials and lessons. The ideal candidate is someone with a positive and responsible mindset who enjoys learning, researching, developing ideas, critical thinking and planning. The program associate will be responsible for the following duties & responsibilities:
Client Services:
provide support to the development and communications team
calendar management
inquiries and requests
support with communications (internal and external)
Team Work:
work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities
Communication:
research and desktop publishing to lead development in 3 employment skills workshops
produce social media content
update program pages as necessary
Digital Skills:
general administrative tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) related to their position
Leadership:
lead team in workshop development activities (manage the day to day activities, write and present weekly updates, monitor goals and deadlines)
Research:
research and analysis to support the development of program curriculum and workshops
provide support to education consultant
research and analysis for new programs, including proposal writing, budgeting and creating work plans and timelines
There is also a mentoring and learning component of the position, which involves one-on-one and group mentoring sessions, tutorials and workshops on hard and soft skills. The position also includes group activities on project management and research and development. The program associate is expected to attend meetings, participate in performance assessment and entry and exit interviews.
Social media community manager (2 positions)
30 hours/week @ $14.25/hour
9 weeks (May 17 - July 16, 2021)

BTS is seeking two social media community managers to work remotely and support the activities of the BTS team. This position will increase awareness of BTS programs and activities across online channels and create engaging campaigns to share success stories. The ideal candidate is someone who likes to write, communicate in an online community, follow online trends, share stories and be creative. The social community managers will be responsible for the following duties & responsibilities:
Client Services:
engage with online commentators across all platforms
manage the social media calendar
assign, manage and collect articles from guest writers and other staff
Team Work:
work with other teams on campaigns, programs and activities
work with past BTS participants to create success stories (multimedia)
Communication:
create daily content (write articles, photography, videos, interviews, etc.)
monitor and prepare weekly report on insights
proofread and edit all content
Leadership:
coordinate all social media campaigns and work with other teams to launch success stories
Digital skills:
manage the BTS blog and all social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, website, Twitter)
general tasks (writing, copy-editing, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) related to their position
use online software to design and produce content (images, videos, promos, etc.)
