BTS builds its volunteer program with support from Jumpstart
Beat the Streets has been awarded three grants from Jumpstart to encourage healthy and active kids in our communities.
We are grateful for this opportunity as it allows us to expand our programs and serve even more low-income youth, remove barriers to participation in sports such as cost and transportation and encourage healthy bodies and minds.
In addition to supporting two of our fitness-based programs, Level Up & You Grow Girl, we received funding to support our volunteer program.
What started as a small program with four coop students earlier this year, has turned into a full-scale program, with almost 10 volunteers recruited for this semester and another 8 starting next semester.
Our volunteers will help us to develop and deliver fun and engaging sports and skill-building programs from our new community space. With this program, we can offer free after-school and weekend programs and workshops to low-income students across the GTA starting in December. These programs will be offered during the school year. We aim for our community space to serve as a safe, inclusive and welcoming place that encourages children to learn, move and grow.
