The Impact of Summer Jobs Canada Grant on Youth Development at Beat the Streets

Introduction:

At Beat the Streets, we are thrilled to express our deepest gratitude to the Government of Canada for its support through the Summer Jobs Canada Grant. This grant will allow us to empower and equip six young individuals with essential skills and experiences through meaningful employment.

About the Summer Jobs Canada Grant:

The Summer Jobs Canada Grant, administered by the Canadian Government, aims to provide employment opportunities for students during the summer months. This grant focuses on fostering skill development, offering valuable work experiences, and preparing youth for the workforce. It serves as a catalyst for personal and professional growth, enabling young individuals to gain practical skills that will benefit them in their future endeavours.

Empowering Youth through Summer Jobs Grant:

Thanks to the Summer Jobs Canada Grant, Beat the Streets has received funding to hire six talented individuals in various roles within our organization. These roles include executive assistant, program coordinator, social media community manager, researcher, and fundraising assistant.

We would like to welcome Kathy Nguyen & Arely Torales to the BTS Summer Jobs team! Kathy will be working as a Program Coordinator, and Arely Torales as an Executive Assistant. By joining our dynamic charity setting, these students will have a unique opportunity to develop a wide range of hard and soft skills.

Skills Development and Growth:

Through the Work It Summer Jobs program, students will enhance their information use, communications, leadership, organizational and administrative skills. Additionally, the program nurtures essential soft skills such as responsibility, accountability, problem-solving, critical thinking, and more. We believe in the holistic development of our participants, equipping them with the tools necessary for success in the workforce and beyond.

Reflections from Past Participants:

2022 Beat the Streets Work It participants share their reflections on the program.

"Through this program, I have seen a tremendous amount of growth in myself and my work. I am grateful to have had another opportunity to work for this wonderful charity! “If there were any summer job opportunity that I could recommend to youth in Toronto, it would be the Work It program. I feel as if I'm already ready to work in a professional workspace with all the soft and hard skills I was taught, such as time management or grant writing.” Fundraising assistant (Taha Shafiqi)
