Jumpstart boosts youth empowerment: 220 GTA kids to benefit from fitness and resiliency programs

October 3, 2023

Mississauga - Beat the Streets is thrilled to announce that it has received $24,120 in funding from Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities (Jumpstart). This generous support will enable us to deliver 11 fitness and resiliency-building programs to over 220 low-income youth, ages 10-18, across the Greater Toronto Area.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities is deeply committed to ensuring that children in need have equal access to sports and recreation opportunities. With their invaluable support, Beat the Streets will create opportunities for low-income youth to build healthy bodies and minds through two impactful programs: Level Up and You Grow Girl.

Starting in October, over eight hours, participants will learn the fundamentals of boxing and kickboxing from professional athletes and coaches to improve physical skills and confidence while learning tools and strategies to promote mental health and resilience.

"The best part of the program is being able to learn and experience doing different types of fighting techniques. Hearing things about our emotional well-being, as well as teaching us discipline, was overall a great experience." Level Up participant, 2023.

"It was a very fun experience and I would 100% recommend [it] to girls that want to feel confident and stronger." You Grow Girl participant, 2023.

"For the past two years, Jumpstart has enabled us to deliver this program and reach over 500 low-income boys and girls in the GTA. With this continued support, we can reach new kids, create opportunities, remove barriers, and encourage healthy and active youth who achieve their full potential! We are excited about the future of Level Up and You Grow Girl and the positive impact it will continue to have on our community." Neal Ewers, Executive Director of Beat the Streets.
