Beat the Streets (BTS) is a charitable organization encouraging resilient, confident and active youth across the Greater Toronto Area through sports and learning programs. BTS advances the education of children and youth by providing fun and unique development activities that build social-emotional, physical literacy and employability skills. Since 2014, BTS has impacted more than 20,000 students through its 4 programs: Level Up, You Grow Girl, Wrestle 4 Fun and Work it. 

With generous support from Canada Summer Jobs, BTS will be looking to expand its team over the summer. BTS is currently accepting applications for 4 summer positions from youth. BTS provides real-work experiences in a non-profit setting and teaches both hard and soft skills to help increase job readiness and help youth successfully transition from school to tomorrow’s workforce.  We are recruiting one executive assistant, one program assistant, and two program coordinators. Positions are for students between the ages of 16 - 25.

Available Positions

Executive Assistant (1 position)

30 hours/week @ $15.00/hour

9 weeks (May 16 - July 15)

Location: hybrid (home and office)

BTS is seeking an executive assistant to work hybrid (home and office) and support the activities of the Executive Director. This position will provide the ED with vital support during the drafting of operational and strategic plans. The ideal candidate is someone with a positive and responsible mindset who enjoys being a team player, communicating, following directions, multitasking, organizing, and problem-solving. The executive assistant will be responsible for the following duties & responsibilities:

Leadership project: second round of summer jobs (application process)

Client Services: Provide support services to the Executive Director (ED); support the ED with the implementation of outreach and strategic plans; calendar management; inquiries and requests; and prepare and edit all ED communications (internal and external).

Team Work: work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities, coordinate weekly reports & time keeping; development and implementation of new youth program.

Communication: organize, schedule and manage meetings (including mentorship), minutes, calendars and internal communications; produce social media content, develop and deliver workshop on employment related skills; and review last year exit interviews and produce report on recommendations to present to senior management.

Digital Skills:  research and analysis to support work of ED as required; prepare and edit internal documents, including presentations and reports; update website content as necessary; general administrative tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) related to their position; and use of Toggl, Slack, Canva, Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Slides, Squarespace, Buffer, Grammarly, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & Mailchimp to complete activities.

Leadership: lead social media team (manage day to day activities, write and present weekly updates, monitor goals and deadlines, report to ED); manage second round of summer jobs application process (prepare job posts, promote applications, oversee applications, coordinate interviews and selection process); and prepare and manage workplans for summer staff.


Program Assistant (1 position)

30 hours/week @ $15.00/hour

9 weeks (May 16 - July 15)

Location: hybrid (home and office)


BTS is seeking a program assistant to work hybrid (home and office) and support the activities of the Development and Communications team. This position will provide the team with vital support during the preparation of the communication and fundraising strategy as well as developing tutorials and lessons. The ideal candidate is someone with a positive and responsible mindset who enjoys learning, researching, developing ideas, critical thinking and planning. The program assistant will be responsible for the following duties & responsibilities:

Leadership project: Group project (youth development program)

Client Services: provide support to the Deputy Director (DD); calendar management; inquiries and requests; and prepare and edit all DD communications (internal and external); and minute taking at all program related meetings.

Team Work: work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities; development and implementation of new youth program.

Communication: develop 3 financial literacy workshops; produce social media content related to programming; update program pages as necessary; develop and deliver workshop on proposal writing.

Digital Skills: develop presentations; prepare program budgets for annual budget; general administrative tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) related to their position; and use of Toggl, Slack, Canva, Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Slides, Squarespace, Buffer, Grammarly, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & Mailchimp to complete activities.

Leadership: coordinate the group project (development of youth program); assign tasks, manage staff, set workplans and deadlines, schedule activities and meetings, prepare and present weekly reports; and monitor goals and deadlines.

Research: research for new programs, including proposal writing, budgeting and creating work plans and timelines. 


Program Coordinator (2 positions)

30 hours/week @ $15.00/hour

9 weeks (May 16 - July 15)

Location: Hybrid (home and office)

BTS is seeking 2 x program coordinators to work hybrid (remote and home) and support the activities of the Workit summer jobs program. This position will oversee the summer job students and prepare all related documentation, activities and lessons. The ideal candidate is someone who likes to organize, lead groups and pays attention to detail. The program coordinator will be responsible for the following tasks: 

Leadership project: Annual report & annual budget 

Client Services: coordination of summer jobs program; work with Executive & Deputy Directors on all tasks related to program activities; support outreach activities of the ED; and supervision of summer staff and volunteers; planning and scheduling any program events; and weekly update meetings with ED & DD.

Team Work: work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities; development and implementation of new youth program; and monitoring of deadlines and goals of all staff activities.

Communication: launch and promote new volunteer program; manage applications and interview process of volunteers; coordinate and produce orientation guidebook; develop and deliver workshops on management and coordination; produce summer jobs evaluation report; and produce social media content on program activities and outcomes.

Digital Skills: collecting and analyzing data on programs; research; evaluation of summer jobs program (development of plan and tools, collection of data); support development of annual Work It jobs program; support development of annual budget; develop GANTT charts; fill in program planning report for each program; general administrative tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) related to their position; and use of Toggl, Slack, Canva, Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Slides, Squarespace, Buffer, Grammarly, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & Mailchimp to complete activities.

Leadership: schedule program activities and coordinate team members; coordinate and run team meetings; develop workplan and coordinate production of annual report; coordinate annual AGM in September; manage and deliver orientation week (including healthy and human rights certification of new staff); and oversee evaluation of summer jobs program.
