Beat the Streets (BTS) is a charitable organization encouraging resilient, confident and active youth across the Greater Toronto Area through sports and learning programs. BTS advances the education of children and youth by providing fun and unique development activities that build social-emotional, physical literacy and employability skills. Since 2014, BTS has impacted more than 14,000 students through its 4 programs: Level Up, You Grow Girl, Wrestle 4 Fun and Work it. 

With generous support from Canada Summer Jobs, BTS will be looking to expand its team over the summer. BTS is currently accepting applications for 4 summer positions from youth. BTS provides real-work experiences in a non-profit setting and teaches both hard and soft skills to help increase job readiness and help youth successfully transition from school to tomorrow’s workforce.  We are recruiting two Postsecondary research assistants, two financing officers, four day camp counsellors, and two community development officers. Positions are for students between the ages of 16 - 25.

THIS SUMMER, BTS WILL CARRY OUT ORGANIZATIONAL, OPERATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS DELIVERING RECREATIONAL PROGRAMS AND MANAGING SOCIAL MEDIA. THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUTH LOOKING TO GAIN TRANSFERABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WORKING IN THE DYNAMIC NON-PROFIT SECTOR.


Available Positions

Fundraising assistants (2 positions)
30 hours/week @ $14.25/hour
7 weeks (July 2 - August 17)

Location: Remote

BTS is seeking two fundraising assistants to work remotely and support the activities of the BTS team. These positions will increase the capacity of BTS to fundraise and write grants while also updating the fundraiser’s contact database and supporting the development of a fundraising strategy. These positions will also support the migration to new fundraising software over the summer. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who likes to work within a team and on their own, who likes to research, write and share stories. The fundraising assistants will be responsible for the following duties & responsibilities. 

Client Services: 

  • provide support services to the development and communication activities 

  • liaise with the development and communications officer to support the implementation of the fundraising plans 

Team Work: 

  • work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities 

Communication: 

  • research and analysis to support the work of the team

  • undertake grant writing and fundraising activities

  • produce social media content for donor recognition

Leadership:  

  • coordinate and oversee the development of online fundraising campaign

Digital skills: 

  • support the migration to a new fundraising system (Micharity)

  • support the development of the donor platform

  • updating donor database; sourcing new grants

  • identify and apply for online sponsorship opportunities

  • general tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) 

There is also a mentoring and learning component of the position, which involves one-on-one and group mentoring sessions, tutorials and workshops on hard and soft skills. The position also includes group activities on project management and research and development. The Fundraising Assistants are expected to attend meetings, participate in performance assessment and entry and exit interviews.


Research  assistants (2 positions)
30 hours/week @ $14.25/hour
7 weeks (July 2 - August 17)

Location: Remote

BTS is seeking two fundraising assistants to work remotely and support the activities of the BTS team. These positions will support the fact-finding and research for new programs and projects while also supporting a monitoring and evaluation project for the BTS program, Wrestle 4 Fun. The ideal candidate is someone who likes to work in a team, research, write and design infographics or images to present information and data entry. The research assistants will be responsible for the following duties & responsibilities:

Client Services: 

  • administer and collect surveys from participants in summer programs

  • liaise with facilitators and coaches to discuss observational notes

  • liaise with development officer to review results and progress

Team Work: 

  • work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities

  • provide research support to all teams as needed 

Communication: 

  • compile data and create presentational charts and infographics to use in reports

  • produce social media content

Leadership: 

  • Coordinate online campaign to promote evaluation results

Digital skills: 

  • prepare BTS surveys and evaluation tools for summer camps

  • assist in inputting data into the Ontario Trillium Foundation online evaluation software

  • analysis and interpretation of data

  • collect and collate quantitative data of summer programs

  • prepare timeline and manage to ensure goals are met

  • general administrative tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing)

The position also includes group activities on project management and research and development. The Research Assistants are expected to attend meetings, participate in performance assessment and entry and exit interviews.


Community Development Officer (2 positions)
30 hours/week @ $14.25/hour
7 weeks (July 2 - August 17)

Location: Remote

BTS is seeking two community development officers to work remotely and support the activities of the BTS team. These positions will support the outreach and daily activities of the Executive Director. The ideal candidate is someone who likes to work in a team, communicate with others, plan and research. The community outreach associates will be responsible for the following duties & responsibilities:

Client Services: 

  • support the work of the organization in networking with local community groups, schools and nonprofits

  • work with social media team and ED to facilitate partnerships with local community groups

  • engage with like-minded organizations across all social media platforms to build network

Team Work: 

  • work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities

  • assist with social media campaigns 

Communication: 

  • update all teams on current outreach efforts through weekly reports or group meetings

  • produce social media content 

Leadership: 

  • develop, coordinate and launch “success stories” campaign to showcase the outcomes of the summer programs

Digital skills: 

  • develop a database with potential partners and community organizations to connect with

  • develop and manage the calendar of outreach activities and events for BTS to participate in

  • update partners web page; environmental scan on potential partners in Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton and prepare contact list 

  • general administrative tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) 

There is also a mentoring and learning component of the position, which involves one-on-one and group mentoring sessions, tutorials and workshops on hard and soft skills. The position also includes group activities on project management and research and development. The Community Development Officers are expected to attend meetings, participate in performance assessment and entry and exit interviews.


Summer Camp facilitators (4 positions)
30 hours/week @ $14.25/hour
7 weeks (July 2 - August 17)

Location: 1301 Fewster Drive, Mississauga


BTS is seeking four summer camp facilitators to work part-time from the BTS head office gym (and part-time remotely) to support BTS programs and services. These positions will deliver daily Wrestle 4 Fun classes to summer camps across the GTA, including both a physical and social-emotional learning component and taking surveys, reporting and promoting the program. The ideal candidate is someone who likes to work with children and youth, in a team, has lots of energy and likes to communicate. The facilitators will be responsible for the following duties & responsibilities:

Client Services: 

  • support the Executive Director in delivering summer programs

  • foster an atmosphere of independence, confidence and mutual support

  • manage schedules and attendance

Team Work: 

  • work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities

  • participate in fitness exercises and lead learning activities 

  • support research team in evaluation process 

Communication: 

  • monitor form and activities of participants and provide guidance when needed 

  • behavioural observations and note-taking each class and present weekly report to research team

  • produce social media content related to programs (e.g. testimonials, success stories, highlights) collect survey information

Leadership: 

  • develop, coordinate and launch “success stories” campaign to showcase the outcomes of the summer programs

Digital skills: 

  • edit fitness portion of videos, upload to Youtube and update the website with content 

  • general administrative tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing)

The position also includes group activities on project management and research and development. The Summer Camp Facilitators are expected to attend meetings, participate in performance assessment and entry and exit interviews.
