My Experience with Martial Arts
KESIA HERE!
For about 8 years now, I have been involved with martial arts. Martial arts have become a part of me and my lifestyle.
When I was 11 years old I was first enrolled into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. For those who don’t know what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is, it is a martial art that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. For about 4/8 years I’ve been training, it has been strictly just Jiu Jitsu. The other 4 years I have joined a couple other sports as well. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been something I turn to for almost everything and anything. Jiu jitsu is all about leverage something I think is so beneficial to understand. It teaches smaller opponents to defend against bigger oppenents.
Going into grade 9 I decided to join the school wrestling team. Ever since grade 9 I’ve been apart of it all the way up to grade 12. Wrestling has been such a fun experience for me. When I first joined wrestling I realized that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is very similar yet very different. In all 4 years of wrestling with my school team, I only decided to join a club in grade 12. I wish I had joined club wrestling way sooner. Wrestling has been so fun for me these past years and I love everything that comes with it.
After being a part of both wrestling and Jiu Jitsu, I realized that martial arts are a true interest of mine. March 2019 I decided to try out boxing. Boxing compared to wrestling and Jiu jitsu is very different. I’ve been doing boxing for about 5 months now and I am enjoying it so much. There is a lot to learn in boxing. It requires a high level of strength, speed, agility, hand-eye coordination, endurance, and more.
Martial arts are so powerful, but not just physically. Martial arts have the ability to transform people's lives for the better. It provides discipline and enhances health, boosts confidence, and helps people gain knowledge on self defence. I can truly say that being apart of martial arts has helped and shaped me into who I am today. When it comes to martial arts, my favourite part of it would have to be competing. Competing to me is so much fun. When I compete I get nervous as do a lot of people. Though it can be quite stressful It’s all apart of it and helps me do better.
I plan on continuing to train martial arts for as long as I can. To this day I train almost everyday and it has become a lifestyle.
